John Ike was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College, and graduated with his Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University. John has a particular interest in interior design and upon forming their partnership he and Thomas Kligerman established an interiors department which has become Ike Kligerman Barkley Interiors. John travels widely and his design is especially influenced by Italian and Scandinavian precedents. In 2009 he designed a room for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. John is a father of three and lives in New Jersey. He is an avid hunter and fisherman and loves the outdoors. Winters find him on his ice boat on the frozen rivers of the Middle Atlantic States.

Thomas Kligerman was raised in Connecticut and New Mexico. Years in France and England as a student sparked his interest in the rich history of domestic architecture, gardens and landscapes. Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and his Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture. After working for Robert A. M. Stern Architects he and John Ike founded Ike & Kligerman Architects, later Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects. He is affiliated with a range of professional and architectural organizations. He serves on the boards of a number of charitable and educational institutions including The Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation. He is married, has three daughters and spends his summers racing sailboats on the coast of Rhode Island.

Joel is an architect as well as a watercolorist. He brings a painterly approach to the composition of houses and gardens. A Chattanooga, Tennessee native, Joel received his Master in Architecture from Princeton University after receiving a Bachelor of Science from Georgia Institute of Technology. He attended the Ecoles d'Art Americaines en France Fontainebleau, and was awarded the Thesis Prize at Princeton. Before joining John Ike and Thomas A. Kligerman to form Ike Kligerman Barkley, he worked for Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill; Robert A.M. Stern Architects; and Diller + Scofidio. Joel has illustrated several gardening books. He pursues organic gardening and beekeeping in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and is co-owner of the restaurant Broadway East on New York City's Lower East Side.

John developed his love of architecture in his native Chicago, touring its marvels with his architect father and art-loving mother. After graduating from Iowa State University, John worked for Hancock Incorporated. It was here that he developed an eye for detail and passion for furniture design. In 1996, John left Chicago to join Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects in New York City. This offered John the opportunity to perfect his craft soon becoming one of the firm's design associates. In 2007 John was named partner in Ike Kligerman Barkley. He opened the office in San Francisco to focus on the firm's West Coast work. He is on the board of the Northern California branch of the Institute for Classical Architecture & Classical America. He enjoys the Bay Area as a base for his interests in cycling, cooking, hiking, traveling, woodworking and sketching.

Alexander R. Eng became interested in architecture while attending the High School of Art and Design where he was exposed to commercial art, photography, sculpture and architecture. His passion and sensibility in mixing the traditional and modern led to a lifelong dream and challenge. Being born and raised in New York Alex was exposed to the finest architecture and firms the city had to offer. After gaining experience at well respected firms such as Swanke Hayden Connell and Robert A. M. Stern, Alex joined Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects in 1999 where he is currently a Senior Associate. As a martial arts enthusiast, Alex is able to apply the focus and discipline acquired during his 30 years of experience in multiple of styles, toward the execution and balance in both his professional and personal life. Alex is married and the father of two.
